In detail

Curcuminoids are the best-known marker family in turmeric. A 95% curcuminoid extract is typically 70–80% curcumin, with the rest made up of demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin. The total is what most specifications state, but the individual profile and the extraction process affect colour, taste, and performance.

Curcumin is poorly soluble in water, which is why beverage and clear-shot applications often need a water-dispersible or bioavailability-enhanced grade. A 95% total says nothing about solubility. If your label claims a specific curcuminoid ratio or a delivery system, that belongs in the specification.

Why it matters to a buyer

  • It is the main label marker for turmeric and curcumin products.
  • Total curcuminoids can hide differences in the individual curcumin share.
  • Solubility, not only assay, decides whether a drink or shot is feasible.

What to ask a supplier

01

What is the individual curcumin share within the 95% total?

02

Is the grade standard, water-dispersible, or bioavailability-enhanced?

03

Which HPLC method and reference standard were used?
